He was the founder of Detroit in 1701. He spent his last year in Gascony in 1716. In June, 1701, he took 50 soldiers, 50 settlers, 50 workers and 2 priests to build Fort Pontchartrain. In 1694, he started at Montreal and went to Fort Michilimackinac .He was always by water on his travels. He was born on March 5,1658 in the Gascony region of France. He thought New France needed forts to protect the upper Great Lakes. He served as governor from 1713 to 1717. He went to prison for two years. His family lived in a small castle near his birth place. He traveled for 4 years starting in 1694. He went on two trips. On both trips, he traveled by a lot of lakes.Cadillac was a French explorer who explored two different places, Fort Michilimackinac and Fort Pontchartrain. He died on October 15, 1730.
